A simple 10-minute routine.
- Warm up · 2 minutes
Walk in place, soften your knees and tap the pulse without steps. - Find the basic · 2 minutes
Count “1, 2, 3 — 5, 6, 7” at a comfortable pace. Let 4 and 8 breathe. - Choose one move · 3 minutes
Read a single step guide. Walk the movement slowly, then repeat it several times with small steps. - Try it with the beat · 2 minutes
Use music or the visual practice clock. Keep the tempo easy enough to stay balanced. - Cool down · 1 minute
Relax your shoulders and notice what got easier. Stop if something hurts.
Three useful practice rules.
- Repeat one idea. Focus on the footwork, timing or partner cue — not all three at once.
- Slow down before adding speed. If you lose balance, use a smaller step or slower beat.
- Stop at pain. A difficult movement is not a reason to push through discomfort. Rest and ask a qualified teacher for individual advice if needed.
Keep a tiny win: “Today I held the pause on 4” is better feedback than “I should be better by now.”
Practise solo or with a partner.
Solo practice is excellent for rhythm, balance and small, clear footwork. Partner practice adds connection and shared pathways. Agree on what you're working on, use comfortable pressure and take breaks whenever needed.
